trying to uninstall "popcorn time"

Asked by Joel Stein

Downloaded "Popcorn time" just on sort of a lark. Now I can't figure out how to uninstall it. Tried to remove it through the terminal but it couldn't be found. A shame ubuntu doesn't have a uninstall function like (ech) windows. Any suggestions?

How did you install it? What steps did you take?

The page is weird on my tablet. Does the site give you a deb to install or is it installed differently?

No Deb. to install. Just a straight gui download from site. I found it in downloads but I'm not sure if I more it to trash if it'll just hide it or if it'll remove it totally.

So you extracted the archive from the site then just run the file in the folder. Is this correct?

With respect to "shame ubuntu doesn't have a uninstall function like (ech) windows."
Ubuntu does have a package management system. If you install a program that is designed for Ubuntu and delivered as .deb package, you can deinstall it with software-center or dpkg or other tools. This is comparable to having a Windows program delivered as .msi file.

If you, however, download a program that is "installed" by just copying the executable file somewhere, there is recording of that as "installed program" by the Ubuntu package management system, and there is no way to deinstall that program with the package management tools.
This is just the same as downloading an executable file from the web to your Windows system and putting it into some directory. Also in such case the Windows system management will not know about that file and will not offer deinstalling it.

In your case the solution most probably is:
If you have installed that program by extracting a number of files from a tarball, then deinstalling that program is done by just deleting the files that you have created.

This is why I asked "What steps did you take ?"

So again. What steps did you take to install the application?
