freezes

I have a fresh install ubuntu 10.04 and when I install the updates upon restarting every program freezes. Firefox works unless i click bookmarks or any other button, same with thunderbird email. the only solution is to reinstall and not get updates there seems to be some kind of problem in the updates 270 MB 252 selected
So any help will be appreciated since i think I should install the security updates

If you look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases you can see that the desktop version of Ubuntu 10.04 is not supported any more (since May 9, 2013).

We can only recommend that you install a supported release.
