Upgrading to Ubuntu 14. something

Asked by Margaret Mackintosh

Hi,

I have Ubuntu 13.04 and a window came up saying I could upgrade to Ubuntu 14. something (Trusty).. So I started the upgrade. After 4 1/2 hours (slow Internet connection) a window came up saying "the upgrade had been aborted".
That "us.archive.ubuntu.com/main or /universal and a long string after these" cannot be found or some such thing. But, I thought there would be no problem upgradeing to the newest version from Ubuntu 13.04. A box comes up saying "all files uploaded has been saved till this point".. Before this occurs the upgrade box shows that the upgrade is around 95% +/- finished. Only has around 300 or so files to go out of over 2,000. Could someone let me know how to upgrade my system?

Raring (Ubuntu 13.04) is EOL and no longer supported which is why you are getting the no found messages.

I don't suggest you upgrade in the way you describe. To upgrade correctly you need to upgrade to 13.10 first and then to 14.04. You cannot leapfrog releases unless you are updating from LTS to LTS.

Personally I suggest you wipe Raring off the system and clean install with Trusty

Hi,

I am sorry. Just checked to see what version I have and it is Ubuntu 13.10... I also noticed after I tried to upgrade Mozilla Firefox had both English and Chinese or Japanese writing. So I checked to make sure my language was English US and it all says it is so I don't know why for awhile I had their type of letters at the top left corner of the page. It is all English now.

I would love to make a clean install. What do you mean by 'Raring'?

I see what 'Raring' is. Could you tell me how to upgrade to Trusty without it aborting when it is almost done. I evidently am partially upgraded as I had to reset the Time and Date info.

I just went to Ubuntu.com.... From their website I cannot just upgrade, need to download to a DVD then install. If I did it this way, would I lose all my Home Directory?
