Is Dropbox safe to use with Ubunto?

I read on Launchpad a little bit about Dropbox for sharing files. Is Dropbox safe to use with Ubuntu?

It's equally as safe as the Windows client. The data is not encrypted as it is transmitted but it does what it says on the tin.

Thanks. Reason for asking is I have it installed but when the Update Manager went to update it along with lots of other stuff, it wouldn't. Said something wacky going on. Which was a strange way of wording, I thought. It does transferr pictures fast and that is all I want it for.
