Not enough RAM?

Asked by John Wilson

Recently I have noticed my computer seems to have slowed down and when saving documents/files the window greys over and hangs up for a few seconds.
Also internet access with Firefox has slowed down.
Here is what I have gleaned about my system:
Using Ubuntu 13.1
Memory 5.8GB
Processor Intel Core i3.2120CPU 3.3GHzX4
OS 32 bit
Disk 710.7GB
Memory size 6144MB

Any help would be appreciated

I looked in the box and cannot see a graphics card so I guess it is integrated into the mother board.
According to System Settings I have a Goldstar Company Ltd 23" monitor
The resolution is 1920X1080, rotation is normal, laucher is placed on all displays and sticky edges are on

If you run:

sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

(Keep lightdm when prompted) then log off and login to the gnome shell session. Is it better?

Imho, Compiz is a complete joke. You are now using Mutter which is a hell of a lot more stable.
