Is there a fast way to transfer photos from a iPad to a Linux laptop?

Asked by Margaret Mackintosh

I am using Remote Files on a iPad to transferr photos from the iPad to my Linux laptop. This way is very very slow and I have lots of pictures to transferr. I have tried to connect the 2 together but Linux will not reconize the iPad or rather won't give permission to use it. So is there a faster way that doesn't require all day to transferr a lot of pictures from the iPad? I tried to contact Apple but was told my iPad is not covered or some such, so cannot ask them this question. Anyone got any ideas?

I suggest trying these ipad applications:

http://appcrawlr.com/ios/filemaster-file-manager-downloa

http://appcrawlr.com/ios/fileapp-documents-files-reader

Filemaster has a higher customer satisfaction rating.

Sorry about being late in answering. Had to see doctors. To answer Andrew, my laptop is wirelessly hooked to Windstream's modem using a LINKSYS Router. When I open "Remote Files" on the ipad I can add a connection by making a name up for that connection and putting in the connections IP address (in this case my laptop's). Then I can open iPads Photo Library and copy a file or photo, open the laptop connection and paste it to my laptop. This works great except to transferr lots of photos it takes all day (12 to 16 hours for over a 100 photos). These photos are for our Flea-market business.

I will now check out Mark's suggestions and find out what happens. Will let you know.

Hi again,

Just went to the filemaster link. Got the link fine, but when I tried to download the app on to the laptop, the linux system will not allow it. Cannot download anything from iTunes on a Linux computer, or at least I am not able to. Didn't try the second link as it is basically the same link just a different app. Any new suggestions?

Those apps are to be installed on your iPad, not on your PC....

In post #3, I wrote that they are iPad applications, not Linux applications.....

Hi Mark,

Yes, I know you said iPad. But, doesn't both the laptop and iPad have to have the same App to transferr files or photos?

I don' think so.

I think that the ipad and pc just need to connected to the same wireless network and have the app installed on the ipad, not on the pc.

But I don't have an ipad myself.

You will need to test it...

Hi again,

Tried to download FileMaster. When I click on download I get "GSN Casino- Wheel of Fortune Slots etc.", no FileMaster comes up. Don't know why. Got to go, will try again later.

Hi,

Still trying to install FileMaster on the iPad. Safari browser won't open it so I am now downloading "Apple Store for iPad" in the hopes that once it is on the iPad, I then can get the app 'Filemaster'. Will find out whenever it is finished downloading.

Will be trying again tomorrow to see if I can get the Filemaster installed. If not then will continue to use the Remote File way. At least I can transferr the photos by copying & pasteing, just very slow.

No luck trying to install FileMaster. So I went back to using Remote Files. Today that won't work either. Keeps saying "Connection Lost or Denied". Is there a way for me to list the iPad as an accesible device or what ever it would be called? Where this laptop would link with the iPad? Is this possible?

Hi all,

I thought I had my problem licked. I looked in Applications for a way to add the iPad to the laptop. I went to "Desktop Help>Photos & Digital Camera". Here under "To decide which applications should start when you plug in various devices", I followed the instructions, did a online seach for other applications and came up with and installed "Rapid Photo Downloader". But when I plugged the iPad to the laptop by using a port, the laptop came up with a window that read "Gary's iPad is locked, put in Passcode on the device and click Try Again". So I made it possible to enter the Passcode on the iPad and the iPad came up with a small window that said "all information would be able to be read from the laptop, then 2 boxes - one with "Trust" and the other "Don't Trust" the connection. I clicked "Trust" over and over but the iPad will not open a link to the laptop. So I am back to square one. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Just to let all of you know this problem was solved but not by installing a app. My cell phone is a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Have it this way so I can take cards at work. By using my phone as such and connecting wirelessly to the iPad and my laptop I can now transferr pictures - FAST. Where before it took up to 2 minutes a picture, it now only takes about 10 seconds per picture. The laptop is 3G network but my cell is 4G network, much much faster. So this problem is solved. Thanks everyone.
