SuperTuxKart 8.1 not updating or unlocking features.

Have been having problems with Supertuxkart 8.1, unlocking features, even though I have went over the required points in the category and got over the amount of nitro needed. Have re-loaded, removed, and deleted the game; re-installed, but to no avail. The same problem keeps happening.

    Would appreciate if you have any knowledge as to where I could purchase a game joy-stick, as it would make it playing a lot easier. Ubunutu 12.04LTS, VESA:SUMO GRAPICS, 64bit, 1Terrabite, AMD A8-3820 APU with RODEON HD GRAPHICS PROCESSOR. HP Pavillion (p7-1225) Desktop PC. Wireless Capable, using Wired Mode. r37u2a49ci
