You can install it if you want, but software centre is installed by default. Why not use that?

Hello. I think that Synaptic is already available after new system installation. Cheryl, I'm also using 12.04 series and Synaptic can be started e.g. by running - in a console/terminal - 'sudo synaptic' (without quotes!) command. Synaptic also should be available through menu >> system >> Synaptic Package Manager.

Best regards.

gksudo for GUI applications like Synaptic. Sudo is only to be used for CLI commands. You will break files which will stop you being able to use sudo at all.

You can download using Ubuntu Software Centre which a default application. Otherwise you click on Dash home (you will see it on the top left corner). Search for Ubuntu Software centre. Then, search & download using it (Ubuntu Software centre).

Can you help with this problem?
