How To Run Setup.exe?

Asked by Rory Starkweather

The WiFi troubleshooter says to try to run the setup application for the WiFi adapter. It's a Netgear 3100 and nothing weird, but UBUNTU keeps asking me what to open it with, and I don't know. ???

Hello,

.exe files are not apply in Linux/Ubuntu. They are Windows executables , not Linux.

If you have a problem with the Wireless connection, then follow the troubleshooting procedure #STEP2 .
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WirelessTroubleshootingProcedure#Step_2

Copy - Paste the commands as one in your terminal and then paste here the results . The whole results, no matter how many will be.

Regards

Rory: is this the equipment you are using? http://netgear.co.uk/home/products/wireless-adapters/high-performance/WNDA3100.aspx

If you are using this with Ubuntu, then the Windows (TM) setup.exe program is of no use to you, I believe. It would be useful to know what you get if you plug the adapter into a USB port, and in a terminal window run

$ lsusb

This lists all the USB devices that Linux can see, with their IDs. Please copy the results and paste them in a reply here.

Followup to #2. Ignore my request, Rory. lsusb is included in the troubleshooting script that Nik has given to you.
