Access denied when trying to add WinXP to Samba PDC

Asked by Zorgoban

We installed Ubuntu 7.10 and set up Samba to be the PDC of the local domain. The client is a Windows XP Home gone Pro with SP2. Now when we try to add this client to the Domain, it just says "access denied". We allready tried to allow root, but even the superuser doesnt have access to add a computer. We also tried to add an account for the computer manually, but this didnt help either.

Thanks, but this documentation is really elementary and we allready set Samba up as Primary Domain Controller (PDC). When you open the System Properties of Windows , where you can change the Hostname, it is also possible to tell Windows to be part of a Domain. After we enter the Name of the Domain there, Windows wants a User and Password to create a Host Account in the Domain. This procedure fails with Access Denied. I will check the Security policy at lunch today, but since our error message doesnt match the one in the documentation I dont think this is the cause.

This platform here would be quite nice, if the response times were acceptable. In the meantime I found help in the forums. If anyone is interested and capable of the german language, read here: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/148810/
