upgrading Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 LTS

Asked by Edmond Condillac

I attempted the recommended up grade to Precise Pangolin from Oneiric Ocelot. After completion of installation and cleanup the restart is still not complete after 25 minutes. The screen just shows the Ubuntu logo with the changing sequence of the five red & white dots below the said logo. Is it required to wait further for the restart to complete?

Does the system have a make and model?
What video chip do you use?
Do you use proprietary video drivers?
Thanks

Try the boot option:

nomodeset

Would this require resetting the kernel boot options. In which case the current frozen restatr has to be aborted.
Kindly advise, if possible.

Hello,

Usually when the restart comes, the upgrade should be completed. I guess something else creates this problem with frozen startup.

Abort the current frozen startup and try one more (reboot).

Also check the
nomodeset option as @actionparsnip said. Just for login and then uninstall the proprietary drivers and install them again.
