GNU GRUB SCREEN ONLY no responce

Asked by Rich.b

Dell 2400 Dimension 1GB Ram OS Ubuntu 12.04

As the PC was starting & before log in I press start button again & PC when off.
Re-started PC and had options on screen below.

With option to press ESC, Safe Mode , Memory etc.

I did Memory test which PASSED OK.

Tried ESC to re-boot but this did not work, switch off PC by holding in start button.

I was presented with GNU GRUB VER 1.99-21 ubuntu29 screen again and there was no
response to any keys.

Try boot-repair, if possible.

Well silly me, I moved PC to add some sound proofing and had pulled on the keyboard plug out a little.

Thank you Yancek, (on LinuxQuestions) I hope I will notice that the next time.....! ?

Put it down to 'very Senior moment' over 70

Hi Rich

please forgive me for the delay in responding to your above query about boot-repair. The advice that I was give previously by NikTh regarding trying boot-repair is as follows:

Boot again from the Live CD and try this tool
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair#A2nd_option_:_install_Boot-Repair_in_Ubuntu
but I think it has to be a Live CD/USB with a supported Ubuntu version. 11.10 has reached EOL. (End Of Life)
Alternatively you can download an .iso that includes this tool by default.

Do not forget to give to Launchpad support the link (URL) that this tool will create (in case the problem not solved).
