ethernet NICs switching places on reboot

Asked by Doug

Hello,

We are having a bit of an odd issue. We have three nics, eth0, eth1, eth2. Sometimes when we reload the OS, the cable that is plugged into Eth0 will come up in the os as being plugged into Eth1. Basically the NICs are moving around. We tried hard coding the MAC addresses in the /etc/network/interfaces file and that didn't help. Does anyone have suggestions on how we could fix this issue?

You can make udev rules to make devices set as certain names.

Can you help with this problem?
