packages are kept behind
sudo apt-get upgrade gives: "the following packages are kept behind: Entangle"
So I did use sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
and again sudo apt-get upgrade, with the same result, as well as '1 not upgrade'.
Which wil be Entangle, I guess.
using aptitude did not solve the problem.

If you still have a problem, check if Entangle needs to be updated from program itself. Some packages do that.
Otherwise maybe some dependency missing and you have to wait for a fix.

Thanks.
I did go to Ubuntu 12.10 quantal.
Re-installed the getdeb repo.
Tried to install Entangle, but Getdeb would not do so.
Tried another package, with the same result.
I'm giving in for the moment.
May be I should go back to Windows.....

You have to be aware that mixing sofware packages from different sources (in your case from the standard Ubuntu repositories and getdeb, potentially also google) might cause problems because of conflicting dependencies or prerequisites.
What is the output of the commands
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install entangle
apt-cache policy entangle libgexiv2-2 libglib2.0-0 libraw5
(copy/paste the output into this question document as already done before.)

Apparently you have performed a release upgrade from precise to quantal during the last two days. Is that true?
You have to be aware that during a release upgrade all foreign sources are disabled. If you want to install Entangle, you have to activate getdeb as source again - but make sure to select the right version. Only now I see that you might have had the getdeb repository for the wrong Ubuntu release enabled at the beginning of this question thread.
To find out some details about your system please open a terminal and issue these commands:
uname -a
lsb_release -a
find /etc/apt -name '*.list' -exec bash -c 'echo -e "\n$1\n"; cat -n "$1"' _ '{}' \;
and then copy/paste all output like you did before.

Dear Manfred
First: I'm very very happy with your help!!!
Yes. I upgraded from precise to quantal, not knowing that all foreign sources would be disabled.
After upgrading I did use the GetDeb-site to re-install the repository. I (for sure) must have done something wrong.
Here's what you asked for:

It is a precaution of the update manager application that foreign sources are disabled in course of a release upgrade to make sure that these sources do not interfere during the upgrade.
You can see from some of the comments "uitgeschakeld bij opwaardering naar quantal" the affected sources.
As you might have noticed, you have a double entry in your sources list (see the warning "W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://
If you want software packages from getdeb (like entangle) you have to re-enable getdeb.
What I propose to do:
Open a terminal and issue the command
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/
This will ask for your password and open an editor with your sources.list loaded.
scroll down to the very end and delete the last three lines (those about getdeb).
save the file and close the editor.
Issue the command
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/
remove the '# ' characters at the beginning of the line and change 'precise' to 'quantal', that the contents are

and finally issue

sudo apt-get install entangle
and provide the output of these three commands as done before.

Dear Manfred
The first command did ask me for my password, but the sources.list did not appear.
I used Nautilus, and removed the three "deb"-files.
Which caused NAtilus to telle me:
++ (nautilus:10925): WARNING **: Could not inhibit power management: GDBus.Error:
org.freedesktop
I ignored that, and used the following comman.
An edito opened, and I gave in the contents.
saved the file.
Aftwer which I issued the last thre commands
I now can open Entangle, but it sill is not working good.
Using my NikonD5000: Live View is not working
In another thread I told that this should work with this camera,
And Iwas suggested that libgphoto2 should need an upgrade.
Here is what was shown in the terminal

For the problem that Entangle does not work well with your camera, I have to say sorry but I cannot help with that.
There is just one more thing I missed in my previous posts - the solution for the duplicate source:
Issue the terminal command
sudo rm /etc/apt/
If that does not help (still a warning about duplicate source on the audo apt-get update command), you have to edit /etc/apt/

I understand you cannot help me with the Livi View problem. As far as understood by me it has something to do with incorrect versions of dependencied.
As in the previous version: the command did not work:
I got the answer: rm: kan '/etc/apt/
("unable to remove '/etc/apt/
Which is correct, I suppose. When checking in the filesystem "/etc/apt/
I do see all kind of switched-off lists. Due to the upgrade to 12.10 they are no longer avaiiable. So it's my guess it's
save to remove them?
Tthere also is no deb http://
But sudo apt-get update also did not show the warning anymore.
Don't quite understand it, but is fine. If you like: I could sens you a screendump of the content of sources
Again: thank you for your superb help, as well as for yoyr paience with this dummie (who has learned a lot , today!)
I guess this thread can be closed, the Live View problem is already in another thread.
One last question: how to check the dependencies of a package, i.c. Entangle?

The rm command did not work, because there were a few letters lost in the filename.
try
sudo rm /etc/apt/
(source.list.d, not sources.d)
To re-check your current sources definition, the output of the command
find /etc/apt -name '*.list' -exec bash -c 'echo -e "\n$1\n"; cat -n "$1"' _ '{}' \;
would be perfect.
To check the depencies of a package like entangle, use the command
apt-cache showpkg entangle
or
apt-cache depends entangle

Dear Manfred
Thanks!
Worked fine, now
You helped me very well.
Entangle is now up and running, and I've found the README-file in
usr/share/
There a list of keyboard-shortcuts is given, one of them allows to toggle
the LiveView-option.
This list should be in the menubar under the help button, I think.
Anyway, this newbie made an interesting and usefull trip in Ubuntu-
land.
And I was so lucky to find you as my guide!
Greetings from the Netherlands.
