Ubuntu 13.04 hangs on boot

Asked by Mike Hinchman

Upgraded 12.10 to 13.04 and now it hangs on boot at a blank purple screen. Selecting Recovery mode and booting with 3.5.0-28-generic boots just fine but 3.8.0-19-generic (the default) does not.
System is homebuilt with ASUS M2N68-AM SE2 motherboard, dual core AMD and 4GB RAM, chipset NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce 630a. Dual boot with 64-bit Ubuntu 13.04 and Win XP. Everything worked very well with Ubuntu 12.10 but not with 13.04.

Thank you for your help.

Mike

Did you try uninstalling the nvidia drivers then reinstalling them? It is rare for proprietary video drivers to survive a release change.

I did not. Please tell me how to do so or point me to where I can find
out. I will record this in my Ubuntu how-to file.

Thank you,

Mike
