Mozilla problems in 3.8 kernel

Just updated Xubuntu today ... now running version 13.04. So: When running on the 3.8x kernel, Mozilla programmes including Firefox and Thunderbird foul my display to the point I have to restart the machine. the 3.5 kernel, which I fortunately still have, does not do this. any clues out there? I'm ready to run any diagnostic you need.

If you make a fresh Ubuntu user and use either application, is it ok there?

The I suggest you report a bug as the profile you have configured is not at fault.
