Installed 12.10 successfully but no boot option in windows 7

I have an Asus EeePC 1001PX running Windows 7 Starter. Installed the Windows installer and from there I think I've successfully downloaded and installed 12.10. Initially I installed this on a D: partition but when I rebooted it just booted straight into WIndows without giving the option of choosing Ubuntu.
I then un-installed this and re-installed on the C: drive but still have the same problem.
Using Windows Explorer I can see the Ubuntu folder has been created and there are sub folders called DIsks and Install.
Any Ideas?

What is the output of:

sudo update-grub; lsb_release -a; uname -a; sudo fdisk -l

I have very limited knowledge of Linux. Can get my way PC & Mac at user lever pretty proficiently but am not a programmer.
Can you explain a bit more where I can get the info you're after

run it in a terminal. what makes you thonk that being a programmer is relevant in any way?

used Command Prompt Window, output was:
'sudo' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

The relevance about not being a programmer is about setting the level of expectation so that if any suggestions are made they may need a bit more detail than if I was an experienced linux user - as is shown in first suggestion that needed running in a terminal
Maybe inexperienced linux user may be more apt than not a programmer

That's more appropriate, yes :). I am not a programmer but use Linux in many guises quite happily.

Judging from the output of the previous command I don't think he'll be able to execute that. Sounds like he can't boot ubuntu and is trying to run those from the windows command shell. Also, did you install using wubi (the windows installer) or by writing an image file to a disk/usb and booting from it?

Yes trying to run from windows command shell.
I installed using wubi as I have no CD Drive
The netbook does have USB and assume I can get the BIOS to boot from a USB disk - would this resolve the issue

I would recommend uninstalling wubi using add or remove programs from the windows control panel, before using unetbootin to write the ISO to a usb device, boot off that and install ubuntu using it. As good as wubi is it is only designed to give you a preview of the OS, and can be buggy at times.
