Getting a constant error message when UBUNTU 12.04 boots

Asked by bccynic

I did a clean install of 12.04 on a completely seperate disk (My Dell 8500 Win 7 does not seem to like UBUNTU on the same disk) works well with a few exceptions. Updates are not being offered, and everytime I boot into UBUNTU I get the following error message: Sorry UBUNTU 12.04 has experienced an internal error.
If you notice further problems try rebooting computer.
send error report

Another similar report The application update-apt-xapian-index has closed unexpectedly. If you notice further problems try restarting etc.

Attempts to report both of the above errors give the same response to the attempt to report the error:

response to error reporting: Invalid error report.
Could not determine package or source package name.

No, I had never heard of it, but I have looked it up and will do tutorials. Thank you.

Unity2D seems directed at low powered computers, mine is a Dell 8500 XPS with Intel I7 processor. Should that not be sufficient. Incidentally all updates are blocked, and I tried Synaptic but got the same results.

Unity2D just uses fewer resources. Even if I had 256Gb RAM and 32 cores (like a lot of servers I manage have) I would use Unity2D

Because my old install of 12.04 was somehow corrupted, I could not try the suggested solutions would not le tme install Unity 2d, or do any updates. I just did a new install, and it seems to be working OK now. Thanks for the help (not sarcasm but sincere. I know everyone is avery dedicated and most answers work fine as long as there is not a hardware or possible un diagnosed software problem.)
