installation freeze at 94%

now i disconect my second cd drive and i got pass the 94% but it then stoped at 95% and now it sayes (checking for package to remove). What could this be now?

Does it really hang at "checking for packages to remove"? In many cases, this can take a few minutes, depending on your configuration.

When it freezes, does pressing NumLock on the keyboard cause the NumLock light to change? Does the mouse pointer still move on the screen?

yes it's hanging at that point the mouse doesn't work and the num luck doesn't work.

i went ahead and started up on c without the cd and the system booted up. but now my display is at a low resolution and i can't change it i tried to download the updates but i keep geting the error (E: dpkg was interrupted you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open()failed, please report.) what does that mean and how do i fix this now should i try to reinstall it all over again?

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

thanks cobra for that info it help alot but in the middle of uploading the system freezed at uploading the monitor, then now when i restart it ask for a pass word and user name but after that, thats it. it give me an orange screen with the mouse curser. the mouse moves if i move it but thats all it does. no desktop at all.

OK please:

Try to press CTRL + ALT + BKSPACE to restart graphic layer...
Try to press CTRL + ALT + F2 to get Pseudo terminal access...

Then retry to update and upgrade, to be sure your system is fully updated:

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

When your system is updated to reboot type:

sudo reboot

Then retry to get graphic access.

thanks again cobra, I did all that and it started out good but then it lock up at setting up gnome -system-monitor (2.20.1-0ubuntu1). but other than that i'm now back on the desktop when i reboot. can you tell me what that error is saying or what you think is causing it to freeze. i think it's got something to do with the monitor or display but i could be wrong. then again i'm new to this os.

I restarted over again and i run the file you tolded me to run all over again and this time it works my upgrades got installed as well as my video driver. thank cobra for your help, i need the help thanks alot and happy new years to you...
