Problem with the "Deskbar" Accessory

It is a known issue, as you can see from the attached bug.

Alright well I'm glad the devs are aware of it. Hopefully they fix it soon so I can see what the Deskbar actually does. ;)

It seems already fixed with the latest versions.

Fatsheep are you running Dapper or Edgy? It may only be fixed in Edgy.

I am running Dapper but I just did a fresh install and it works now.

I had this problem with Feisty (updated 13/March) and with Edgy.
it is not fixed yet.

I am having this problem on Dapper.

It appears to work fine on Feisty for me.

I am having this problem with release 7.10 (gutsy) using Kernel 2.6.22-14-generic with GNOME 2.20.1.

In addition, I am getting errors for "OAFIID:GNOME_Fastuserswitchapplet", and for "...GNOME_mixerapplet".

I was just hit with it too.
On boot up I get the black screen with white letters watching everything load as if I had hit alt-F1 during boot.
Boot up takes forever and when almost everything is loaded I get an error screen with:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet". and choose don't delete.
I've been running 7.10 with great success on a newer t61 Lenovo until a day or too ago.

I got this identical OAFD:Gnome error after allowing updates on a 10/23/2008 install. The updates loaded without a hiccup. The error appeared after a shutdown and reboot.

I should also have stated that this was on a Gutsy install from a printed Ubuntu CD.

For the record, a package did fail on startup and it was a "lib" package. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the entire name. I also noted that my Login Window preferences were set to default "Run Xclient script" so I changed that to "Gnome". I will report on my next reboot.

Here is what I did to finally get rid of this error with the updated version of Ubuntu 7.10:
1. Open a terminal window by Ctrl-Alt-F2
2. At the prompt type "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" without the quotes
3. On the next line type "sudo aptitude reinstall gnome-applets" without the quotes
4. If you get an error message you will need to also type "sudo dpkg --configure -a"
Don't switch back to the original Gnome window until all the operations complete

After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 LTS and rebooting, I actually just received this error message - have no idea if it's related, don't even see a "Deskbar" applet that I can add to the panel. Any info on where I could begin is appreciated.
