uninstall grub

Asked by Farhan

I have just installed ubuntu 7.10 but i have been utilised too much amount of my hard disk from window xp os (my lap run with window XP SP2).

1. Plse guide me how to relocate some of the amount to window xp os. For yr info i have made a partition for the existing amount of hardisk used by ubuntu. 1/2 used by ubuntu and another 1/2 are not used. This unused hard disk, i need to relocate to window os back.

2. Can i uninstall ubuntu. If say so plse guide me also how to uninstall ubuntu and return to the hard been utilised to original window os.

3. May be you can give me the best option for my laptop.

Your assistant are very much appreciated.

To uninstall Ubuntu, pop in the Windows CD and boot the setup. Choose repair (by pressing R). This will start the repair terminal. Enter:

> fixmbr
> fixboot C:

After that boot your machine and just delete the linux partitions with your partition manager and resize the windows partition to its old size... This is not always a good idea, because fixmbr doesn't work well in most cases.

WARNING!: Deleting your linux partitions, will also delete all the data in them. Backup all your important files before you proceed!

The alternative way is to boot from the Ubuntu CD, open the partition manager (gparted) and delete the linux partitions (see the above warning). Resize your windows partition to the desired size and recreate your linux partitions in the free space. Reinstall Ubuntu and you're ready to go!

I hope this was helpful.
