You should type

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

after that check with

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

if everything is ok.

Hi Nibs

I've had the same error message for over a month and have not been able to update Ubuntu since (7 updates waiting) You said you went into the terminal, how did you do that? If you can't crawl then I can't even lift up my head.

thanks for any help you can give

tom

Hi there blkveg,

To open the Terminal you have to click on 'Applications' at the top
left hand corner of the screen (assuming you did not customize or
change the placement of the Ubuntu screen layout). Once you click on
'Applications', there will be a dropdown menu from which you mouse
over 'Accessories', then out pops another menu where you can find
'Terminal'. Click on it when you find it and it opens up the terminal.
This is the scary part coz its where all the codes come in : ) Beyond
that I'm clueless...

In my case, what I did was to re-install the Ubuntu OS and it solved
my problem, i.e., I managed to get all the Updates installed after I
re-installed the OS. Wouldn't recommend it if you need your sleep heh
heh.

Cheers

Thanks for the help.... I was just having a brain cramp.

I put my OS disk in and was able to repair the update and then it was able to install.

Thanks again

Oh my, I am having the same problem but do not wish to reinstall OS. I put the prompt in the terminal and submitted my password and all I get is command not found. Is there any other way to fix this problem besides reinstalling OS.
Thanks,
Kamakea

I did not have to re-install the OS to fix the problem, but I did have to have the OS disc in to repair the problem. Everything has been installing okay since.

Good luck

Please don't append a new question on a already answered or marked as solved question.
Please make new question from here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion
you will get better chance to get right answer on a fresh tagged "open" question.
Solved or answered questions are usually not read from answering people.

Thank you
