Screen Resolution Messed up

I was playing with VNC and got it working, meanwhile I noticed that my screen which had a resolution of 1024x768 with a refresh rate of 85hz is now showing only at 70hz..any thoughts on how can I get back the 85z refresh frequency.

In addition, when connecting from VNC from a remote computer, when i try to change the resolution on the remote computer, it says cannot dynamically change resolution as xRandr not supported.

You may have to go to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' and manually edit your refresh rate. Then Press 'Alt' + 'Ctrl' + 'Backspace' to restart gdm.
