(Beginner) Problem with live boot on 7.10

Asked by Crazytaco1

okay, i kinda figure this is a graphics card driver problem. but im not positive...

When i run the boot cd, and choose live boot or install boot or safe graphics boot or whatever, my computer becomes eerie silent and the monitor stops working, like it's been unplugged or something.

I am running an ATI Radeon x800 graphics card, and don't know how to install linux drivers from the live cd interface... i got the .run file from ATI, and am ready to use it.

Ubuntu 710 64 bit version

When the live CD shows you the boot menu, press F6 to change the kernel parameters. Delete the "splash" at the end. Does it fix it?

yes it did, until i rebooted... now when i try to run linux, an error reading something like: error usb 1-2 blah blah blah something about reading device 2 error -71... any thoughts on how to fix that? I tried unplugging all usb devices and trying again, but the same error came up

thanks

here are the actual error messages:

USB 1-2: Device no accepting address 2, error -71

Then a few seconds later this one comes up:

ata1: SRST Failed (errno=-16)

then busybox opens up, followed by two more ata1 error thingies...
any suggestions? i really just want to get this damn thing to install

I'm glad you got the graphic issue resolved but I'm afraid I can't help you with your USB problem.

Since it is a different problem and completely unrelated to the your graphic card issue, you might want to ask a new question so people with the appropriate knowledge can take a look at it.
