Hp 712c does not physically print

Asked by Joe Lynch

Alot of people have been having trouble with the HP 7xx series lately because of the issue with /etc/pnm2ppa.conf (One needs to change something about the version line). However I have a HP 712c and have tried all of those changes yet my printer still does not work. The wierd thing is that my printer is recognized and it completes jobs it just won't print. So for instance, if I tell it to print a test page, it sits there processing the job and then it tells me it has completed the job, but nothing comes out of the printer. No errors of anything, I checked /var/log/cups/error_log and no errors (it is set on Debug mode). Any advice that would get my printer working (the only thing that did not work after the switch to Dapper) would be greatly appreciated.

I use Linux 2.6.24.19 by Ubuntu distribution on my pc, connected to my local printer hp psc1110 by usb. I downloaded and installed driver/utility for my hp psc series, because at the beginning only the scanner function was working, but the printer function was seen disconnected.
after this, the printer is recognized and, when i launch a print job, it completes job, the paper is feeded and shooted and the job is declared "done", but it just don't print. The same if I tell it to print a test page, it sits there processing the job and then it tells me it has completed the job, but the paper is just faded-printed somewhere on the page area. The same if I ask to print black: just some faded shadow somewhere on the page.
take into account that the same printer works correctly with different operating system.
tnk a lot if someone can help me paoloc from Italy
