Problems retrieving pre-requisites for upgrade to Gutsy (update-manager)

Asked by TZRick

Same problems !!! I really don't know what to do. Is it possible that this is caused by codec for dvx player ?
Thank you!

I have the exact same problem when attempting to upgrade from Fiesty Fawn to Gutsy Gibbon

I'm having the same problem upgrading to Gutsy as well, but apparently on only one of my machines, an old HP laptop (with a virgin install of Feisty) is having no problem..

I had this problem as well, I have just turned off the http://medibuntu... sources under "third party software" in the software sources application.

EG:
Main Gnome Menu -> System -> Administration -> Software Sources -> Third Party Software tab -> Untick anything starting http://medibuntu

It seems to be updating ok now, I will post back If I have any other problems

Just try this.

http://www.ubuntu-nl.org/source-o-matic/

Generate new source.list without any usless sources, and you won't have this error again - it works for me. Updating in progress... :)

Good luck!

I'm sorry, I'm a little new to launchpad and had opened a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/153958) for this question, where Brian told me to remove Medibuntu. I am now typing this with Opera 9.23 on Gutsy.

Thanks anyway for your efforts!

hello im having problems with Gusty. can u help?

Package [package] is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package [package] has no installation candidate

yeah i forget what the medibuntu sources are for. However they are not
needed for a Gutsy upgrade. You added them like I added them for some
other purpose, I think for video codecs or something. Anyway just go into
terminal and type: "sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" and either delete or
comment out the medibuntu references and save the file. Then upgrade will
work fine with no probs. Worked for me and that is the solution i found on
the net from others
