Disk partitions, data transfer/recovery

Asked by Daniel

I just installed Ubuntu 6.06.1-desktop today. I made a new partition on the hard drive to accommodate Linux, but my Windows XP operating system seems to have disappeared altogether. The previous two partitions still contain all of my data and programs, but I cannot access them.

When I look in the Linux partition editor, I find the following descriptions:

Partition 1
Device: /dev/sda1
Filesystem: Windows NTFS
Access Path: none
Status: inaccessible

Partition 2
Device: /dev/sda2
Filesystems: Unformatted
Access path: none
Status: inaccessible

Is there any way to retrieve my data and programs from these two partitions and transfer them over to my new Linux system?

Many thanks.

What does fdisk show?

sudo fdisk -l

If they appear try mounting them:
