The major difference between Ubuntu and Xubuntu are the environments, namely Gnome and Xfce (think of it as a kind of layer of graphics, it doesn't change the base of functionality of your system. I have KDE, Gnome and Xfce all installed and have no problems at all using the same directory structures). I'd actually recommend using Xfce, it's lighter and should have no trouble running the same binaries.

for a gaming server Xubuntu would probably be better. As it is less hardware intensive. For absoloute speed you could use Ubuntu server edition.

Can you help with this problem?
