Dapper Server boots up again and again

Asked by Sven Janssen

Hi all:
I´ve installed Dapper Drake Server CD twice already. Both times the installation was finished successfully. Always the same problem. My computer starts booting up again and again. It´s like a never ending loop. On the screen there are the follwoing messages before it goes back to the very beginning:
Booting ´Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.15-23-server´
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/...
initrd /boot/...
savedefault
boot

Does anybody has an idea what to do here? I already checked the quality of my CD by using the ´Check CD for defects´ funktion. Check was finished successfully.
Thanks.

Just for be sure - Have you remembered to remove the cd when the installation is over -
otherwise it will boot from the cd/dvd.

Hi
I had the same problem, and couldn't make it work. But, when I used the Alternate install CD and booted with server option, it worked. It is still weird to me that the official CD setup for server doesn't work in a pretty standard PC environment. Hope people with the same problem show the cases and help finding the bug or the installation pitfall (?) in the server CD.

Thanks to Kim Alex and Teru!
Regarding Alex´ advice: yes, I removed the CD.
Regarding Teru´s advice: I understand I shall try it with the Dapper Desktop CD. I will do and keep you updated.

Thanks to Teru I managed to set up the server function I was looking for.
The only question which remains to me is "Why do the Ubuntu software engineers offer a server CD?"
