unable to download the new OpenOffice 2,3

I noted that Open Office has announced a new version, 2.3, of their office suite. I downloaded it into my Ubuntu program but was unable to extract it because of a Java program not being available. Is there a workaround available? I am an Ubuntu newbie and need some help.

Ubuntu makes several changes and enhancements to OpenOffice.org which helps it to fit in better with the rest of the OS.

I recommend waiting until the release of Ubuntu 7.10, which is currently scheduled for October 18th. It includes OpenOffce.org 2.3 along with many other wonderful features and enhancements. After the new release is made available, it will show up as a special button in the update manager.

Thanks, very much. Rather than raise my blood bpreesure, I'll wait for Ubuntu to do it for me.
