Do you mind giving a little more info on which steps you've tried exactly?

Did you move mimeapps.list and restart X (logout-in)?
mv ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list-old

Bug report explains why the issue happens.
Currently context menu incl. 'Open with another application...'
Lets say user has a picture folder which should open with F-Spot.
Right click on folder -> 'Open with another application...'
Popup window shows a list, user chooses F-Spot and clicks on it, result pitfall.
User oversaw the bottom line which was marked as enabled:
Remember this application for opening folders

So now every folder opens F-Spot, assume which in regular work cases isn't expected.

I followed the directions in que/110117.
then ran mv ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list-old and this has solved the problem
Thank you SAM. Don't know what I did but it has worked so for now thanks again
Phil
