Upon restart,"Unable to mount, wait or press S or M" ubuntu 10.04 64 after recent update.

Asked by dishantbt05

Today i updated the ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on Vostro 1710 Dell laptop. Upon restart it is indicating to unable mount the drive with options to wait, press S and M to manually load the drive. After few seconds it loads normally and every thing is fine.
Earlier this week while in windows (using wubi installer) it was unable to boot after updates. Then i again installed it on seperate disk partition but again today after updating it is indication problem in booting up.
Why this is happening? How can i resolve this issue to get normal boot up screen.
Thanking You

About "installed it on separate disk partition", do you use Wubi or do you have a true dual boot install, with all Ubuntu outside Windows ?

i formated the whole pc and installed ubuntu only. The swape partition was deleted by me, i again created it and now it is working normal.
do deleting swap file causes this ?

Yes, Linux needs a swap partition to run. Swap holds the virtual memory.
