webcam installation ubuntu 4 on dell mini

Asked by ajg

I want to use a webcam by Creative as an extra webcam. My Dell Mini 9 has a webcam on the lid of the notebook and it works great; but now I would like to install another webcam (USB) with a long cord on the Dell Mini that I can use to display the outside of my home by the front door. I have found small dropping by my front door and I would like to see what rodent is living in the bushes by my door.

Can the installation be simple without having to recomplie or undo packed drivers. I do not understand linux or all the things you have to do just to get something simple to work. I come from a Windows world and all you have to do is plug the thing and it is done.

Thanks.

Please install the cheese package from menu Apllications→Ubuntu software center

then look into Applications→Graphics menu and run cheese...

Additionally, if you are new to Ubuntu, i recommend reading through the Ubuntu Manual, it's very informative:

Click on the "download Button" to download the latest PDF version.
