10.04 Server won't WOL 3C905C (3c59x)

Asked by johmut

Dell Latitude C840 running command-line Ubuntu Server 10.04

NIC 3c905c (Tornado) rev. 78 can do WOL (works in WXP, not in Linux)
"Ethtool -s eth1 wol g" cannot get wol status from driver so does not set wol !
Configured /etc/modprobe/network.config with "options 3c59x global_wol_enable=1"
Configured /etc/init.d/halt with "NETDOWN=no" and "pci-config -B2 -#6 -S" before halt command

Read and tried everything I could Google up on wake-on-lan issues for my hardware with no success.
After shutdown, no LED on NIC connector. Magic packet no use for wakeonlan. Out of options now, need expert ? help please ...
Someone else running 10.04 server on Dell C840 ? Pm-suspend & pm-hibernate working ? Powernap ? Fancontrol ?

Thanks &
Best Regards,
Johmut

Thanks Jeff, are you also affected by this or similar wol issues ?
May be worthwhile to mention that wol is enabled if I cut the power and re-apply: NIC LED is on !

I have the same card and same problem.
Following this :
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=951563
I managed to keep the PCI bus powered (i.e. the NIC LED stays on after shutdown).

However I still can't wake up the computer with a magic packet after a standard shutdown. I manage to wake up if I switch off the computer manually 2-3 seconds after switching on.

Do you have the same symptoms ?

Can you help with this problem?
