Thinkpad T42 suspend / hybernation problem on 10.4

Asked by Vlad

Recently installed ubuntu 10.4 on my old thinkpad t42 and it was flawless until the system found updates. applied updates and now the computer is not going into Suspend or Hybernation mode, instead it just locks the screen.
I tried changing the power schema but that didn't help.
my son entered a guest mode and suddenly was able to suspend the computer by closing the lid, but when i logged back on under my account, suspend does not work again.
wondering if there is any fix for this.
it is not too much of a problem, just minor inconvenience.
thank you

You could compare settings of gnome-power-manager in different accounts.
either
system preferences -> power management
or gconf-editor
path:
/apps/gnome-power-manager

Try suspend via CLI:
sudo pm-suspend

thanks for the advise, i used gconf-editor to disable
/apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/use_screensaver_settings
and suspend mode started to work
