eMule

I'd like to use emule in ubuntu and downloaded the sourcecode in a .zip-file. Can I use this to install the program without having to use wine? If so, anybody who knows the procedure?

You do need Wine to run a Win32 executable such as eMule. However, there are native Linux programmes that you can use as clients for the same eDonkey2000/Kad networks that eMule uses. I suggest aMule if you want a simple eMule look-alike, or MLDonkey for a more powerful (but more complex) client.

OK I have mlDonkey now, but there are no servers or networks to connect to, it's just dead with no information on how to get it going.

Check mlDonkey's site: you probably need to feed it an initial list of servers.

In any case, if you are new to Linux, I would suggest you try aMule instead.
Though not as powerful and versatile as mlDonkey, it is easier to get running.
