main menu flickers and high cpu load

Asked by marcogoni

The gnome-panel eats a lot of cpu cycles 50-70% and if pressed, the main menu bar of the applications starts to flicker very quickly.
If removed from the panel, everything becomes normal and gnome-panel uses no cpu.

Alacarte pegs the CPU as well. even if the menu isn't in the panel.

Can you help with this problem?
