Creating ISO images from hard drive

Asked by shailendra carpenter

Hi,

I wish to create a live image of my ubuntu installation on the hard disk. I wish to install the hard disk image as it is on my computer to other computers. Will it be possible using UnetBootin. If there is any other utility to do that please let me know.

I have recently switched from windows to ubuntu and it so happens that i crash my system very often and I have to re install everything again. It is time consuming and I cannot restore the same configuration again.

Thanks and regards

You are looking for Partimage. For instructions on how to use it, see:

With »crash my system very often«, do you mean Windows or Ubuntu?

These answers are not appropriate. I agree strongly with the need for ubuntu to provide a method to copy a disk immage (or to provide the ability to create a script that can be used to re-install a crashed system.)
Partimage does not work for ubuntu (does not support the appropriate formats.) - the idea is probably good, I could not verify.
I am going to test <partclone> and report here.
Of course, the ideal would be for Disk Utility to work, when installed in a USB (because that way the disk to be cloned is not mounted.)

Can you help with this problem?
