Has anyone written an application to use the volume keys on an IBM ThinkPad?

when i loaded ubunto i lost the use of the volume up, down and mute on my Thinkpad G41.
is there a bolt on solution someone has already come up with to give these keys back to me?

They should "just work" - they work fine on a T510 (although the new mic mute button does not).
According to ThinkWiki - http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Debian_on_a_ThinkPad_G41 - it looks like you need to install the tpb package to use these buttons on a G41.
