unable to modify my xorg.conf file

Asked by matty p

I am trying to set up an 8 button mouse (logitech mx1000) and every time i alter my xorg.conf file it gives me this error
"Could not save the file /etc/X11/xorg You do not have the permissions necessary to save the file. Please check that you typed the location correctly and try again."

i logged into my root acount by typing "sudo su" into the terminal and then giving a password (the command line chages from matty@computer to root@computer) and i am still unable to edit the file.

also if somone could tell me how to log outta root, that would be sweet as well.

What owner and permissions does your xorg.conf file have? ls -l /etc/X11 | grep xorg.conf

To log out of root (su) type exit

i suggest you to use sudo vim /etx/X11/xorg.conf
or
sudo su - than sudo su

Can you help with this problem?
