Home netwok with Fiesty not working YET

Asked by MoriartyNZKiwi

I have fully migrated to Linux, Feisty 7.04 Installed all the upgrades as they are published and offered to me via the web.

I have the following equipment, all working.

Modem and switch 192.168.1.1
Computer BOB 192.168.1.2
Network Printer 192.168.1.3
Computer Siwsan 192.168.1.4

All works, BOTH puters can print independently of each other to the networked Printer.
Both puters can access the web and do emails etc to their various ISPs
Either puters can ping the other

There is NOT NOT NOT an MS device left in the house!! YES!!!!!

NEITHER computer can "SEE" the other for file transfer etc.

Is there an easy way? do I have to install Samba? What next?

You don't need samba unless you want to connect with a windows pc. Do you have ssh installed? sudo apt-get install opensshd then google for a tutorial using ssh and scp.

thank you.

SSH is on the packages manager NOT SSHD.....

Got it, installed it and after an hour of trying various combinations of settings, fluked it!!
Thanks for putting me on the right track. Think I will invest in faster NICs tho, slow as the second coming!!
