How do I dedicate more memory to Ubuntu?

Asked by Tyler Lehmann

I have installed Ubuntu to dual boot with Windows via Wubi, and now It says I am out of memory. How can I dedicate more memory to Ubuntu without having to reinstall it? I want to keep Windows Vista and Ubuntu on the same machine, so I can't get rid of Vista.

WUBI is a folder inside of Vista so Windows and Linux is using up RAM when running Ubuntu.
Works best with at least 2 gig installed in Machine.
Cannot allocate from one to the other. How much Ram do you have installed?

I have 4 Gigabytes of RAM. RAM isn't the problem, though. I am out of actual file soring memory. I had to delete a bunch of games and files to make more room. I need to add more file storing memory. I have a 280 GB drive and a 9.99 GB backup drive built in, and I am only using about a little more than half of it.

How much did you tell WUBI to use when installed? If you need more room back-up your home directory
to a drive. Back-up your settings in firefox: Bookmarks to orginize bookmarks to backup will be a .json file that
only firefox can use to restore settings.
Go to WUBI folder and uninstall WUBI then take your install CD and install choosing as big as Wubi will allow in disk space. Or you can choose to do a partition install and you can then always make it larger or smaller in disk size using a partition
editor such as gparted.
WUBI is great to learn on but has its limits. Either way you choose if all is backed up it will take an hour or two to get your system back to how you like it.

Can you help with this problem?
