How to install Synaptic

Hello

Synaptic is already installed by default. About adobe im not sure

I got Adobe installed. But I looked all over for Synaptic.

Could not find it.

I had to install it before I reinstalled 10.4 Kubuntu

P.S.
I went to a page to watch a movie that takes Adobe Flash.
Firefox opened up a small window on top to install missing
plugin so I clicked on it and it installed it and I closed FireFox
and it was installed.

Connect to the Internet
Open Konsole Terminal Program
Issue the command: sudo apt-get install synaptic

You should not really use Synaptic in Kubuntu, there is a different Package Manager for Kubuntu called "Adept" that does the same job and is nearly identical

In any answers forum when you get told to use Synaptic just use Adept instead.

PS i doubt that using Synaptic would hurt, it just installs a lot of "dependencies" which "bloats" your system. Again that shouldn't be too much of a problem either.

To install flash-player it might be best to install the adobe closed soure "proprietary" one. Try

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Ahh, that is a relief :) I am pretty clueless about Kubuntu. I hate blue & i hate the MicroSquish look even tho Vista copied KDE rather than the other way around! I would rather use Windows itself than Kde although gnawing my own hand off sounds preferable to either! Something i really love about linux is that we have the choice and we can all be using totally different set-ups but still get along fine :))

I would keep both now. I didn't realise that Synaptic is the one that most people seem to use in Kubuntu. You already have got Adept so you don't need to install it. It is installed by default just as most of the other programs you find in the menus

Generally i would avoid using Windows apps. Just find Adept or get to a command-line and try

gksudo adept

or

gksudo synpatic

and use the search tool in either of those package managers to look for stuff you want. The search tools look in the descriptions so you be fairly vague. In this case i think try searching for "flash player" and see what packages are listed. I think The "System" menu is somewhere in the menus that start from the "Start" button or KDE equivalent. To install adobe's flash player from a command-line try

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
