No Picture at all using 10.04

Asked by ruarz

Hey, I wonder If anyone can help, I have just decided to have another go with Ubuntu after a break (I gave up the first time because the picture was all messed up and grainy on my laptop using version 8, this is now finally fixed with version 10 after a lot of threads on here) I am now trying to load 10 onto my desktop and I am getting no picture at all. First I tried the 64bit version as I have 64bit capabilities on my desktop. It loaded but I just get an extremely garbled image of my windows desktop and thats it, nothing. I thought initially that it would be some kind of harware issue somewhere along the track, so I downloaded the 32bit version and tried that, having tried the old 8 disk earlier on in the day with no trouble, I thought that that should fix it. No such luck, still a garbled windows desktop, even though it is definately Ubuntu that I am loading into with Splash startup appearing and everything.
Can anybody help? I want to break away from windows:) I'm trying!

Have you tried the Alternate Install CD??? It doesn't have a graphical install, instead it uses a text based install, and might solve your problem. Also how much RAM does your system have? Anything less than 4GB, it is recommended you use 32bit. You only need to use 64bit if you have MORE than 4gb of RAM.

Here's the links...

Alternate 64bit .torrent
http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.04/ubuntu-10.04-alternate-amd64.iso.torrent

Alternate 32bit .torrent
http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.04/ubuntu-10.04-alternate-i386.iso.torrent

Or if you'd like to download the cd images (not .torrents) you can find them here...

Hope this helps,

Good Luck!

Hi, gave the alternate cd a try, all installed ok, still no luck though i'm afraid, this time a message saying [GPU LOCKUP, switching to software fbcom] appeared and exactly the same problem. Installing was not an issue anyway because I could install through windows with the live cd. When installed via the alternate CD it did allow me to enter recovery mode, however this did not work either and I tried to use the failsafe graphics mode, this just turned my monitor off and did nothing. Seems like Ubuntu 10.04 is just not going to work with my computer unless there is some drastic change to the graphics drivers!

This is looking one of the most same problems that I faced using ubuntu but you can check here https://apksight.com/whats-tracker-apk/ some information about it in detail.

Can you help with this problem?
