Installed Wine program not in Applications menu

Asked by Jim

I installed Wine, and the synaptic package manager and the add/remove programs menu listing shows wine as installed, but I cannot find the application in the applications menu or anywhere else.

I downloaded it (Wine version 0.9.42 from the Winehq downloads page for Ubuntu using the terminal command line instructions for my version of Ubuntu (7.04), and the appropriate version number showed up in the package manager as installed. I did a re-install but still no joy.

Any ideas?

Hello,

if you try to install a .exe application the application will be open with wine. Wine is not a GUI application, its a command line application. If you looking for a graphical front-end take a look at codeweavers [1] or cedega [2] for playing windows games. They build a gui to install and start windows applications.
