Tosheba Satillite l505 black gets text and hangs on ubuntu start from cd.
I do not get ubuntu on 10.04 I get a purple screen with something at the bottom then some white text and black background replaces it.

If these models have different graphics cards maby it is the ATI graphics card. It is just a guess any sugjestions?

It has a AMD64 Processor & I got the i386 iso because I assumed it would have less problems.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you check the CD for defects?
Did you burn as SLOWLY as you could?

MD5 test went correct
I am using windows 7 and did not know about the windows burner program I used one that poped up. it shows burn dvd as a option rather than cd. I will see if I can use that to test the current disk.

I am burning one with ifran recorder at 16x now from the iso I checked with the md5.

/it does not show how to test for burn defects after...

ok then try disabling unnecessary hardware in BIOS for the duration of the install. Also make sure you have the latest BIOS in your system. This can also help.
You could also try some boot options:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

I believe in Lucid you need to hold shift at some point to show extra options. You may even have to install Karmic then upgrade to Lucid.

I had to hit esc key to go to see the menu options choose language etc.

That might be a video option...

I was not able to check cd integrity on eather cd.
I got the same errors in white text and black background when I went to eather.

It sits there on that.

try looking at the bottom of the screen. See if F4 and F6 don't do stuff. I looked at a screenshot and saw those as options. You could choose safe vga and/or select noacpi nodma etc etc.

May help

they are in the F key based menus on the boot screen. Suggest the flow chart on:

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com

Try all the boot options enabled to make the kernel as basic as possible

Can you help with this problem?
