how to upgrade from beta release to official release?

Asked by zotrules

I upgraded to Lucid beta release a couple of months ago. since a couple of days the official release is out. nevertheless, i cannot upgrade, or at least i am thinking so.
I open the update-manager, but i don't see any "new release" options there. i run it as update-manager -d, still there's no new releases available.
now i have to say that i've been updating my system almost in daily basis, but never have upgraded it. does this mean that by installing all bits of updates that have leaked in through the update manager, i now actually have the official release? i can see in my system properties that i am using Lucid release 10.04. it doesn't show anything as to whether this is still a beta version or already an upgraded release to the final distro. the problem is that it has been "release 10.04 (lucid)" even when it was just a beta release.
i have to say that i have tried all so far, in terminal, update manager, using sudos or gksus, but i have never seen any notification of new releases' availability.
any idea anyone?
thanks in advance.
PS: i have cleaned my system to the bone in daily basis. so there's no old junk or scripts in it.

Hi,

If you have performed all the updating of your system since its installation, then it has become the same as the final version released on April 29th.

You can verify which system you have with the following command in a terminal:

cat /etc/lsb-release

bash: cat/etc/lsb-release: No such file or directory

anything else?
like i said, the system will show the same thing as before. after all, the system monitor will retrieve the exact version of the system actually installed in my computer. and that is "release 10.04 (Lucid)". but then, like i said above, it has been such even a week or a month ago when everybody was dead certain it was a beta release.

ups, sorry i had not noticed the space after "cat". still, the version showing is the same as last week.
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04 LTS"

but maybe that you're right, maybe i do have the official release... i'm just not so sure, because i remember reading the same thing(release) even last week or a month ago.

Hi,

There is a blank space between the command "cat" and the argument "/etc/lsb-release"

The command means like display (cat) the content of the file lsb-release which is located in the directory /etc/

I have done the same : installed an alpha3 and their doing updates of the system, each time you would typically have to download hundreds of MB of packages. Since the release candidate, this amount dropped sharply to a few MB and packages just before the final release (i.e. during the one week between the RC and the final releases).

i don't know whether it is really resolved or not, but i can mark it as solved anyway. my point is that even during beta version, the command has had the same output.
