regarding audio & video playback

i am using ubuntu 9.10 and i am facing a problem regarding the audio play back i have downloaded the plug ins needed to run the audio and video files but when i start an MP3 application, although it runs but does not give sound , i think that might be my speaker drivers have not been installed yet ,please suggest me further what to do ????

Have you installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package?

Search for "restricted extras" in Ubuntu Software Center (or Synaptic) or use the command "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras".

Once it's installed you should be able to play you video with audio.

Type this in console:
sudo dpkg -l | grep ubuntu-restr*
And paste here the output.

So you should install this package - ubuntu-restricted-extras
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
