Using Ubuntu desktop 9.10, would like to install Ubuntu 9.10 server

Asked by jojocompas

Using Ubuntu desktop 9.10, would like to install Ubuntu 9.10 server on the same computer and it doesn't matter if I have to overwrite 9.10 desktop.
Let's assume all my files were backed up, how do I proceed doing this?

This is an Ubuntu question rather than a Launchpad question. I have changed it to Ubuntu instead of Launchpad itself. Hopefully you'll get more responses, I'm sorry I cannot help you directly. :)

You can install Ubuntu server over the desktop installation. Then it will be a server system and your desktop will just be a text console. If that's what you want, then go ahead and do that. If you want to have both desktop and server functionality, you could install server packages into the desktop system. However, that will require manual configuration changes, such as making the network stay active between logins, etc. Do you want to also use this machine as a regular graphical desktop after server is installed?

Ubuntu server edition is only meant for servers. if you really want to make your system a server you can use an ubuntu server cd ( select 64 bit or 32 bit) and install the server.
