How can I use a Sony Memory Stick in Ubuntu (Ricoh-based controller) ?

Memory sticks using readers with the Ricoh R5C822 controller don't have a driver in Ubuntu.

You may want to subscribe to that bug.
Only Ricoh can provide such a driver or someone that reverse-engineers the Vista driver - none of that has happened yet.
As a workaround it seems some external readers work. When I asked about that on my blog, a reader suggested Texas instruments controllers-based readers would work, but I haven't verified that.
